9 Ways to Make Valentine's Day Green

Updated: Apr 9, 2021

There are so many ways on Instagram on how to give sustainable gifts for Valentine's Day, but very few on how to actually have an eco-friendly holiday. And like any other holiday, it's not just about the gifts. You should try to incorporate something sustainable into your day.

1. Ditch the (traditional) flowers

Opt for a beautiful green houseplant instead! That way, you don't have to worry about unnecessary plastic or packaging. Hopefully, you also don't have to worry about disposing of it for a very long time.

2. Eat a Vegan meal

Find a new and exciting vegan recipe on Pinterest or Google to try out this Valentine's day. This way, you'll be saving the planet, animals, and yourself on Valentine's day. There's no better way to make your day more sustainable than eating a vegan meal!

3. What about chocolate?

My personal favorite thing about Valentine's day and life in general. And luckily, there's amazing vegan chocolate that you should gift your significant other this year. Check out Mexican chocolate from Earth Hero using my affiliate link. Their organic, homemade, and woman-owned business. So not only are you getting a delicious piece of chocolate, you're supporting a sustainable and ethical business, which is hard to do sometimes. If you decide to get some, get some use code DRAGUN10.

4. In the bedroom...

Luckily Package Free has an entire section dedicated to sustainable sex. Check it out here.

5. E-cards or Recycled Cards

I personally hate cards, they can't be recycled, and they never say the right thing for me. I love ecards because they're customizable and don't get to go to a landfill! Although, if you really cannot give up a card, or maybe your partner loves receiving cards, check out some recycled cards from Earth Hero using my affiliate link. Or make your card at home to ensure that it can be recycled.

6. Do something good

Volunteer as your date or some point during your day :) Not only will you be helping others, but you'll also bond with your significant and learn what's really important to them. Volunteering is a fantastic eco-friendly activity for Valentine's day.

7. Rethink your date (or activity)

Try to plan something that creates minimal waste, like a picnic (either indoors or outdoors). Or go to a small, locally-owned restaurant that you've been dying to support. If you're able to and comfortable with it, plan an experience like an amusement park (if it's warm by you), laser tagging, skiing, or a paint and sip. Really anything that you and your significant other would enjoy doing together!

8. Transportation

Whatever you and your boo decide to do, think about how you're going to get there. Try to make it more eco-friendly by biking, carpooling, or taking public transportation if you can. If your destination is within walking distance, that's even better!

9. Indulge in Self Care

Take the time to do something for yourself during the day. After all, you should show yourself some love too. There are so many ways you can do this that already sustainable, like meditating, taking a bath, and even making your favorite food/dessert.

Now I know I repeatedly used the term "Valentine's Day," but (almost) all of these apply to anyone in your life that you want to show some love to this Sunday. You can celebrate Galentine's day by giving your BFFs sustainable gifts and doing to better the planet.
